What to look for when choosing a removals firm

Written by Robinsons Relo

If you are relocating abroad and need a removals company that you can rely on, then you need to consider a few things when deciding on the right company.

Firstly, it is a wise move to obtain a few different quotes from removals companies so that you can compare what they can and cannot offer and how well it is tailored to your needs. Don’t automatically assume that the cheapest is the best option. When you are comparing look at what or if you get packing materials, boxes, cartons and crates and whether VAT is included. Robinsons removals company can give you a free no obligation quote.

Check to see what the process is when it comes to your move. It is essential that your removals project manager that you have been assigned too visits you to establish what the move will entail and what will be needed. In this meeting you should cover all questions and queries such as which items need special care and attention as well as any awkward or bulky items you are taking which may require the team to bring in their specialist handlers to remove it from your home.

Ask about the whole process from beginning to end. Times and dates of the shipping and delivery and how long it will take. Enquire about the packing and storage of your belongings.

If you accept your estimated quotation then make sure that you receive it officially in writing with all the information about the packing, loading, unloading, storage and special handling for breakables and valuables.

Tell the removal company if access from your old property or to your new property is likely to be difficult. Parking space for the removal lorry will also need to be considered. Such problems can add to the cost of a move and should be considered in the estimate. Don’t accept an estimate over the phone. All quotations should be in writing and include pricing for packing, loading and unloading, storage (if required), special handling for breakables and valuables and any other special requests, such as curtain hanging and cleaning.

Make sure you have a regular point of contact with your removals company who will know of your move and what is involved. This makes the experience more personal and easier to manage rather than having to speak to numerous people each and every time to explain your problem, queries or questions.
