Europe’s Largest Mega Mall Opens
Some major business removals have taken place in London, with the launch of a brand new £1.4 billion shopping centre.
As Europe’s largest new mega-mall, it is set to be the Olympic gateway for the 2012 Games.
Thousands of shoppers descending on Westfield Stratford mall, in east London, as part of the star-studded opening ceremony at the weekend, which attracted stars such as London’s Mayor Boris Johnson and Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger.
Pixie Geldof and Nick Grimshaw declared the centre open and now customers can shop in the stores 300 shops which include the likes of John Lewis, M&S and Waitrose.
Olympic and Paralympic athletes turned up to sign autographs as it is reported the mall will show the main sporting events during the Olympics as well as travel updates and news.
Boris Johnson said: “Westfield’s Stratford City project is setting the pace for the transformation of east London. It is one of the most important legacies of the 2012 Olympics.
“It will create 18,000 jobs and, as a result of Westfield’s investment, have some of the most modern additions to London’s public transport infrastructure.”
The huge commercial removals will have had to move all the furniture into the 70 cafes and restaurants in-store. There is also a 14-lane bowling alley, a 17-screen 3D Vue cinema, and the UK’s largest casino. Furthermore, there are three on-site hotels which include 617 rooms so the amount of staff needed to move all the fittings in, would have been great.
