It has been dubbed Britain’s strangest home simply because it is a bungalow that has been built around a 130-year-old railway carriage.

The property, based in Ashton in Cornwall, has to be one the most unique houses in the UK. It is a fully functioning house but bizarrely it has been built around a real railway carriage after weird planning regulations meant that it could not be moved.

The owner, Jim Higgins, a retired transport manager, took over the property from his former father-in-law Charles Allen. He was forced to build around the Great Western Railway car and to integrate it within the walls because wacky planning rules meant it couldn’t be moved.

The 64-year-old is now restoring the carriage to possibly open it to the public and turn it into a museum but can you imagine living in such an odd home?

It is reported that the carriage has all the amenities of a normal home such as a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen.
